Kristaps Porzingis probably won’t be joining James Dolan’s band anytime soon.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Porzingis was asked if he’s ever played the kazoo, since the Knicks owner uses it as his instrument of choice at times. Dolan will likely be disappointed to hear that the 21-year-old hadn’t even heard of a kazoo.
“A kazoo? No, never. I don’t even know what it is,” Porzingis said.
Dolan’s kazoo playing is far from a secret.
He’s appeared on the Today Show to play the kazoo and also set a record of most kazoos played simultaneously at Madison Square Garden in 2014. At the time, 7,422 kazoos were played.
It’s hard to tell if Dolan loves the guitar or kazoo more.
The Knicks owner has a hobby of playing with his band JD & the Straight Shot and how been open about his love for music. Knicks fans wish he’d spend less time on his band and more time on turning his basketball team into a winning franchise again.
Knicks basketball has been a disaster since Dolan took over the team in 1999.
The team has managed to make the playoffs just five times in these years and haven’t reached the NBA Finals since the 1998-1999 season. The Knicks have also had 11 losing seasons during this time.
If only Dolan knew how to run a basketball team like how he played the kazoo.
Porzingis has been the lone bright spot on the team the past two seasons, but the franchise will have to build around him to turn things around.
